Question and Answer

Off campus access to online resources for Retirees

Provides information and suggested language for questions about off campus access to our online resources for retirees.

Starting January 1st, 2023 retirees will no longer have off-campus access to online resources licensed through the University Libraries (Journals, databases, eBooks, etc.)

There will not be any changes to the following services and resources:

  • Library circulation/borrowing privileges
  • Free access to our document delivery and interlibrary loan services
  • On-campus access to our license digital materials while using a library computer or logged into the UAGuest wireless network using your own device.

Why is the off-site access to online resources changing?

  • Due to an authentication error, a number of retirees have had off-site access to library-licensed materials.
  • This access violates the contract license terms we have with hundreds of different publishers and other information service providers.
  • These licenses restrict off-site access to only current students, staff, faculty, emeritus faculty, and some affiliates (Certain Designated campus colleagues).

If a retiree has any further questions or concerns, please refer them to Michael Brewer (Brewerm@arizona.edu)
