Question and Answer

How will I organize, manage, and screen the results of literature searches?

Comprehensive literature searches in bibliographic databases may produce thousands of records. The research team must organize, manage, and systematically and independently screen these results.

A variety of tools—free and for purchase--are available for managing SRs, and you may also use a citation manager such as EndNote.

The search results and the results of the screening process must both be thoroughly documented. The literature search process cannot begin until you have a system in place for organizing, managing, and screening search results.
