How do I search for dictionaries & encyclopedias?

1. For general dictionaries, use:

Oxford English Dictionary
Find the meaning, history and pronunciation of more than half a million words, both present and past.

Merriam-Webster Dictionary
Searchable by selecting the Dictionary button in Britannica, Merriam-Webster is one of America's most trusted dictionaries for English word definitions, meanings, and pronunciation.

2. For a general encyclopedia, use:

Britannica Online Academic Edition
Find authoritative reference materials covering art, biographies, history, literature, maps, sports, statistics, and more.

3. To locate discipline-specific dictionaries or encyclopedias do the following:

Go to advanced library search and type in your keywords. Hit search.

Once your results come up, look at the filters on the left and find Type of Material, then select Show More to expand the list.

Select Reference Entries and click the Apply Filters button.

This will show you the dictionaries and encyclopedias that are related to your topic.
